On Monday July 23, 2018 Mary Lou Harrison, District Governor 2018-19, Rotary District 7040 visited the RC of Toronto Leaside. ADG Gerd Wengler accompanied the DG. In her presention to the members and guests, Mary Lou talked about Our 2018-19 Rotary Year: Theme – Be The Inspiration

Globally, Rotary is more relevant than ever before, and its potential for good is vast. Unfortunately, not enough people fully understand what Rotary is and does. Even within the clubs, many Rotarians don’t know enough about Rotary to take full advantage of what Rotary membership offers. Rotary service transforms lives and communities. To achieve even more of that transformational service, we need to think differently about our role in Rotary, and Rotary’s role in the world. We need to put more emphasis on our public image, using social media to build our membership and attract the partners that help us scale up our service. We need to focus on larger projects that have a more lasting impact, taking the time to research and plan our work that spans Rotary years and terms of office.

Most important of all, get ready to Be The Inspiration for positive change in our clubs, our communities and around the world. This is our fabulous theme for the 2018-19 Rotary Year under the leadership of R.I. President Barry Rassin, RC of East Nassau, New Providence, Bahamas

The District Governor spoke about Rotary’s New Vision Statement.
“Together, we see a world where people unite and take action to create lasting change –  across the globe, in our communities, and in ourselves.” June 2017
·         6 words – Unite People – Take Action – Create Change
·         3 words – Unite, Act, Change
·         1 word = DO
It was also an opportunity for the RC of Toronto Leaside to share with the District Governor information of the major projects that our club embarked upon in the past year. President, Jennifer Valliere named and elaborated on the Recycling Project (April 2018), Tree Planting with schools (May 2018) and Community Corn Roast planned for September 2018 at Trace Manes Park.
